DePaul University's African and Black Diaspora Studies (ABD) program is an interdisciplinary course of study focusing on power dynamics, history, identity, gender, and race within the context of contemporary Africa and the global movement of Black and African peoples. Students explore the Black experience through diverse lenses such as historical, artistic, sociological, anthropological, and philosophical perspectives, examining cultures and societies across the African Diaspora. The program offers flexibility to specialize regionally (e.g., Africa, Black America, Afro-Caribbean, Latin America) or thematically (e.g., literature, politics, gender studies), supported by dedicated faculty and a customizable curriculum. Unique opportunities include combined bachelor's + master's degrees in Critical Ethnic Studies, integrating graduate coursework starting in senior year, and a 3+3 BA/JD program that accelerates students into law school after three years of undergraduate study.
