With digital forensics playing a critical role in the world of modern criminal investigations, our MSci Computer Forensics has been developed to meet the demands of this evolving profession. You will gain excellent technical and theoretical skills encompassing the acquisition, analysis and interpretation of data recovered from computer based devices such as PCs, mobile phones, tablets, network equipment and other data storage devices to establish factual evidence in a manner that is admissible in a court of Law. The course also covers the English legal system, handling and preserving evidence, courtroom skills, and expert witness skills, plus professional reporting, and personal and organisational ethics. You’ll be based at Millennium Point – part of our City Centre campus – where you’ll have access to a specialist computer forensic laboratory, equipped to the standards set out by ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers of England, Wales and Northern Ireland). Throughout your course, you’ll be supported by expert teaching staff whose credentials include a highly respected digital forensics expert who has worked with organisations across Europe. The course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). All accreditations will be renewed in accordance with the accreditor’s standard review process and subject to the University maintaining the same high standards of course delivery. Choosing to study the MSci integrated Master’s degree programme will enable you to stand out from the crowd on graduation with a Master’s level qualification. You will also undertake a final year project which will help you to develop advanced technical and professional skills.

Foundation years/Year 0 courses: Foundation years (sometimes called Year 0 courses) are designed for students who don’t meet the entry requirements for a particular degree course, and enable them to develop their learning to an appropriate standard in preparation for Year 1 of the degree.Foundation degrees: If your qualifications are slightly below those required for direct entry onto a Bachelor’s degree, Foundation degrees may offer an alternative route to a full undergraduate degree.Higher National Certificates/Higher National Diplomas: Higher National Certificates (HNC) and Higher National Diplomas (HND) are vocational qualifications which often include practical elements as well as theory. It is often possible to ‘top up’ these qualifications to a Bachelor’s degree through further relevant study.Certificate/Diploma in Higher Education: These are similar to HNC and HND qualifications in terms of levels of study achieved. They can potentially be ‘topped up’ to a full Bachelor’s degree in a related subject area.Bachelor’s degree: This is a full undergraduate degree qualification. Bachelor’s degrees normally take three or four years to complete on a full-time basis - they can also be studied part-time.
