General objective:

Train professionals capable of conceptualizing, designing and efficiently operating systems for the use of renewable sources and energy infrastructure , as well as evaluating the energy potential of various sources, through multidisciplinary work, within a framework of ecological, ethical and social responsibility.

Specific objectives:

  • Design and conduct experiments that reveal the physical and chemical behavior of materials and equipment used in alternative energy sources.
  • Develop, transfer, operate and maintain technology related to renewable energy sources.
  • Assess the energy potential of renewable energy sources and design energy conversion systems with low environmental impact that are useful for communities.
  • Assess the economic feasibility and improve the efficiency of production systems and use of renewable energy sources.
  • Develop new knowledge in the field of renewable energies.
  • Manage human, material and financial resources in companies or organizations related to the generation, distribution, use and sale of energy.
  • Perform consulting for the optimization of energy use and to manage resources for the development and implementation of efficient renewable energy systems.
  • Carry out dissemination work on the rational and sustainable use of renewable energy sources.
  • Promote the development of logical, critical and creative thinking with an attitude of permanent learning, ability to interpret and analyze problems, oral and written communication skills, which allow the student in training, the generation and acquisition of new knowledge related to chemistry, physics, mathematics and the knowledge of the profession, among which can be mentioned, conversion and energy balance, heat transfer phenomena, sustainable energy processes, feasibility of investment projects, in order to solve problems with attitudes innovative and enterprising, ethical and competitive.
  • Promote the formation of honest, responsible, supportive, respectful, empathetic, tolerant attitudes, with availability and integrity that denote the internalization of values ​​that facilitate personal growth in its emotional, humanistic and physical dimensions.
  • Contribute to the strengthening of the values ​​and attitudes that allow the professional to interact, live with others and work as a team in a responsible, ethical, empathic, collaborative, proactive, committed and tolerant manner, promoting awareness, covering social and professional expectations.
  • Provide the student in training with the educational experiences that allow the development of theoretical, heuristic and axiological knowledge that support the know-how of the Renewable Energy Engineering profession and that will be required for their insertion in the various fields of their profession.

Admissions and costs

Undergraduate entry requirements include a high school diploma, a filled in application form, passing the admissions tests and proof of your proficiency in English. Keep in mind, you’ll also need a passport, student visa and health insurance to enter the country.

Tuition fees at undergraduate level include a MX$1,860 enrollment fee (≈US$89) and tuition is based on the number of courses a student takes per semester and their average grade from their previous semester, starting at MX$1,520 (≈US$72) per course. Depending on your grades, though, you may be eligible for a tuition fee reduction of up to 100%.

The cost of living in Hermosillo, where the university is situated, should be no more than US$700 a month, including accommodation, groceries, and transportation, though of course this figure can vary depending on the type of the accommodation you seek (whether a hotel or flatshare).

Costs, scholarships and admissions

To be eligible for postgraduate study, you would need a bachelor's degree, a GPA of 8.0, proof of your proficiency in Spanish and English (with a TOEFL score of 450), the GRE subject test (depending on the course), two letters of recommendation, a personal statement and a research proposal (only for PhDs).

UNISON offers all students with an average grade of somewhere between 80 and 85 a tuition fee reduction of 50% in their second semester.  This figure can rise up to 100% depending on their grade.

Students can also apply for a CONACYT scholarship for a monthly stipend of approximately MX$13,769 (≈US$770), provided they have a GPA of 8.0.
