Yerevan State University (YSU) is one of the top public universities in Armenia. A public university, founded in 1919, it has seen around 100,000 students graduate since then. From small beginnings, Armenia’s “mother university” is now made up of 1,600 staff and 20,000 students, of which 18,000 are undergraduate and 2,000 postgraduate, including 300 students from overseas.Lessons are conducted in Armenian, though the university is also able to offer tuition in English or Russian.YSU has the following faculties:
The academic year begins on September 1st and runs until June 30th.Notable alumni include: Marat Aleksanian, politician and minister of justice from 1996 to 1998; Paruyr Sevak, Armenian poet and writer; and the 1st and 3rd Presidents of Armenia.
