The Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is conferred upon students who satisfactorily completed the general education requirements and the prescribed curriculum. To earn this degree, a student must completed a minimum of 120 credit hours and meet all the requirements of the nursing major (60 credit hours) with at least a 3.0 cumulative nursing grade point average and an overall HPU cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher. The Nursing Program is approved by the Hawaiâ€˜i Board of Nursing and is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). PROGRAM OBJECTIVES Students who major in Nursing will: Clinical Practice â€“ Apply theoretical knowledge with demonstration of skill and judgement to provide safe patient centered care across the lifespan using the nursing process. Evidence-based Practice â€“ Integrate evidence to guide clinical practice and evaluate outcomes of care. Leadership â€“ Apply leadership and communication skills in diverse organizational systems. Professionalism/Ethics â€“ Practice nursing care by incorporating legal and ethical decision making, utilizing current standards of practice. Quality Improvement and Safety â€“ Perform safe nursing care and incorporate methods to optimize patient outcomes. Health Care Informatics â€“ Promote innovation and utilize information systems and technology in charting. Decision making, research and scholarship. Health Policy and Advocacy â€“ Apply knowledge of health policy, patient advocacy and health needs of all populations that addresses access to care, equity, quality and cost efficacy. Inter-professional Collaboration â€“ Collaborate and communicate effectively with other professionals and interdisciplinary teams to improve health care outcomes. Transcultural care â€“ Integrate the values, beliefs, and health practices of diverse populations to promote quality outcomes.
