The Bachelor of Music (120 hours) is a professional music degree with areas in music performance (instrumental or vocal), jazz studies, and composition. Students who complete this degree can go on to have careers as professional musicians (symphony, opera, church, jazz, composition, etc.). Many students also go on to graduate schools. The intensive curriculum includes eight semesters of applied study, upper level music theory and history classes as well as ensemble participation. Prospective students must audition for admission into the Bachelor of Music program. Composer Professional instrumentalist: classical, pop, rock, jazz Professional vocalist: e.g. classical recital, oratorio, opera, and choral singing Sacred music musician The Jazz Studies Track integrates performance with dissemination of knowledge. For example, students in the Jazz Workshop ensembles perform and develop a repertoire and improvisational techniques on Tuesdays and Thursdays while the UCF Jazz Ensemble I and II meets Mondays and Wednesdays. The scheduling of our curriculum gives students a great deal of rehearsal and performance time and input from our professors.
