Universidad de Belgrano was founded in September 11, 1964 and since its foundation it was guided by the principles of autonomy, pluralism, ecumenism, republicanism, social interdependence and internationalization. Since the 1980s the university has focused on the internationalization of all its academic activities in the understanding that the international, intercultural and global dimensions of higher education are the key to promoting a global student identity. The agreements with more than 100 international partner universities through exchange and cooperation agreements, and double degree programs show our commitment to international education and facilitate the exchange of students and professors.
By spending a semester in Argentina, your students will not only enhance their CV, but continue to grow as global citizens. Students will receive transfer credit for Lower and Upper Division Courses while experiencing a challenging and transformative time in Buenos Aires. Specifically designed for undergraduate students, our semester programs are held twice a year, beginning in early March and in late July. Courses are taught by our faculty in both Spanish (PEAL) and English (PALAS), and are transferable to the US and European credit systems. The Certificate in Latin American Studies distinguishes students willing to transform the semester abroad into an academic experience of excellence. Students must complete five courses, and conduct a directed research. We can create customized summer programs based on our course syllabi or on syllabi provided by your home university.
In 1992, the University Tower was constructed to accommodate the four foundational academic units including the Law School, the School of Economics, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Architecture and Urban Planning. Some years later, others were included such as, The School of Graduate Studies in Law and Economics, the School of Languages and International Studies, the School of Health Sciences, and the School of Exact and Natural Sciences.
The paradigm shift in intercultural communication brought about by globalization has introduced important changes in the curriculum, including continuing education for professionals. With this is mind, Universidad de Belgrano has created the Department of Graduate Studies and Ongoing Education. The development of new information and communications technology has led to the creation of the School of Distance Studies and Online Education (FEDEV); the course-offer has become accessible to the whole country through online undergraduate courses.
The new study plans now consist of compulsory and elective courses, language and technology requirements, professional practice experiences, a final undergraduate thesis and defense. In the same innovative line, most schools have condensed their study plans to 4 or 5 years as a result of the introduction of the quarter system with the goal of allowing the exchange of incoming and outgoing students. The quarter system also incorporates institutional as well as external evaluations from such organizations as the Latin American Network of University Cooperation (RLCU) and the National Commission for University Evaluation and Accreditation (CONEAU) and the active participation in such forums as Unión de Universidades de América Latina (UDUAL), Proyecto Columbus, RLCU, etc.
In this regard, study plans from graduate and undergraduate programs have started to apply for official recognition from CONEAU and from international professional bodies like The Royal Institute of British Architects that has recently granted accreditation to the programs taught at the School of Architecture. This process entails on-site inspections and the auditing of the academic policies and procedures that are put in place to improve the quality of education. Moreover, and with the spirit of developing new knowledge through research, the university promotes the Annual Symposium for Researchers and publishes the online journal Perspectivas: revista cientÃfica de la Universidad de Belgrano that features scholarly articles from various disciplines.
Through Academic Extension (or extramural studies) the university conducts educational activities for the community including drama courses and plays, choir, art contests and exhibitions. The university also has a radio station run by faculty and students that seeks to help develop core communication and journalism skills, and also to reach out to the community. Our facilities also include a Health Center office free of charge. We also encourage service learning through which students apply their academic skills and knowledge to address real-life needs exploring today's biggest sustainability questions. Giving back to our community is part of our social mission and by empowering our students and future decision makers, they are able to face these challenges.

Degree Programs at Belgrano
Since its foundation in 1964, Universidad de Belgrano has been very active in coming up with innovative education ideas. Based on experience, Belgrano has strengthened and reaffirmed the importance of career progression developed in response to changes within society, organizations and the workforce. Helping students in developing an attractive professional profile ensures first moves on the career ladder.
The University offers a variety of programs and opportunities designed to engage students in the curriculum and to enhance the academic experience at Belgrano. The academic offer includes a wide range of undergraduate programs through onsite courses as well as online and hybrid learning. For 2022, Universidad de Belgrano offers 64 Degree Programs: 50 undergraduate programs, and 14 graduate programs (1 PhD, 6 MA and 7 specializations).
Our competitive advantages come from focusing on relevant qualifications and skills:
â–ª Doble Degree Programs:
Our DD Programs offer courses for incoming and outgoing international students with an advanced level of language proficiency. Integrated study at two universities allows a broader range of courses to be offered without extending study time. In addition, students can learn a foreign language and develop crucial communication skills including intercultural competence, flexibility and mindfulness.
â–ª Professional Practice Experience:
Students have to comply with 200/400 hours of Professional Practice Experience as part of their academic requirements. Work-based learning will make our students gain up-to-date employment skills and be more competitive when joining the workforce for the first time. Realizing what attributes graduates need in order to succeed in a competitive and dynamic job market is a priority on our agenda.
â–ª Elective-Course Offer:
Electives are flexible courses that enrich Degree Programs. An elective course is one chosen by a student from a number of optional subjects or courses in a curriculum, as opposed to a required course which the student must take. While required courses are deemed essential for an academic degree, elective courses tend to be more specialized. Elective courses usually have fewer students than required courses and they are designed to enhance the students' selected field of study
â–ª Attending Conferences and/or Talks:
Students must attend conferences and talks organized by the different academic units at Belgrano. This requisite is meant to expose students to keynote speeches from experts in their field and get inspiration about their work. Academic conferences are excellent ways to develop presentation skills, and gain new insights into topics that are genuinely related to the students` field of studies
â–ª Final Dissertation Paper Workshops:
These workshops are meant to give orientation while alleviating the stress and anxiety that most students feel when writing a dissertation. It will help them in choosing a do-able topic, and breaking the project into small, manageable units. The aim of this written assignment is to test the independent research skills students have acquired during their formative years at Universidad de Belgrano, while using the assessment to determine their final grade
â–ª Certificate qualifications:
T he incorporation of professional skill-based certificate-level qualifications are a supplement to conventional degree level courses. Combining a degree with a certificate can provide students with a competitive profile when applying for a position. Students achieve greater intellectual development and deeper knowledge of the discipline when applying problem-solving capacities, critical thinking, interpersonal skills, intercultural competencies, commitments to social service, and even career development in such areas as Administration, Finances, Real State, Taxation, Law, Politics, International Relations, Organizational Psychology and English Language.
▪ The ‘employability’ Agenda:
Future employment is also a concern at Belgrano. The relationship between Degree Programs and the productive sector is strong and instrumental in articulating the employer-higher education interface and in developing the graduate attributes required for their professional workplace. Supervised by faculty, students attend field trip visits in the academic year and attend guest speaker talks coming from different backgrounds e.g., public and private sectors, corporate, entrepreneurship and small business as well as social work.
