FREE TUITION UNIVERSITIES IN GERMANY: COST OF LIVING, VISA APPLICATION AND ADMISSION DEADLINE

GERMAN EDUCATION IS AS GOOD AS THEIR FOOTBALL– CONGRATULATIONS GERMANY ON A WELL DESERVED WORLD CUP GLORY!
Study Abroad 365 has put together a list of 25 universities in Germany that are tuition free for international students seeking to study in Germany. However, be informed that while studying in Germany, you’ll be required to finance your feeding and accommodation expenses. International students should budget roughly 500 Euros for their books, healthcare, food and registration. So in one year, an international student should expect to spend 7000 Euros on feeding, accommodation and books expenses.
HOW TO OBTAIN A VISA
To obtain a German visa, you’ll have to show concrete finance proof of your ability to finance your accommodation and feeding expenses during your time of study. This can be done in either of two ways:
(1) Submit a letter of finances to the German consulate or embassy. You can obtain this sponsor letter from your parents or a German relative who is willing to sponsor your studies in Germany.
(2) Open a German blocked account and deposit roughly 7000 euro. This can only happen once you’ve received your letter of admission. This blocked account is opened in the German embassy.
For more information, visit a German consulate in your home country or check out their websites for further details.

Hi there,
I am a Canadian currently living in Holland and I have a working visa for the next 5 years. Would I have to apply for a new visa if I want to go to university in Germany or does my Holland visa work all throughout Europe?

Hi Shauna, as a Canadian you do not need to apply for a student visa to study in Germany but you do need to have been accepted into an accredited German university and you'll need to apply for residency within two weeks of entering the country. If you want to move to Germany before enrolling on a course, you may be interested in applying for the 'student applicant visa' which allows for a three-month stay before you have to enrol. More information can be found here.

Hope this helps,

Laura

Hi Adeed, I'm afraid you'll have to check with each German university directly, as entry requirements differ and exemption is likely to vary. To find the best german universities in this faculty however, you can look here - https://www.topuniversities.com/university-rankings/faculty-rankings/engineering-and-technology/2014#sorting=rank+region=+country=162+faculty=+stars=false+search=

Good luck,

Laura

Hi Adeed. This will usually depend on whether you completed your bachelor's degree in Germany. If you did, the master's degree would usually be free of charge, but if not, then tuition fees may apply.

Hi Hassan. At undergraduate level, there are no tuition fees in Germany. In the UK, fees charged to international students vary depending on the university and the course. You can find out more about the costs of studying in Germany here, and the UK here.

Hi Muhammad, no, this isn't the case. English-language programs at German universities are becoming more widely available, particularly for postgraduates. To see whether a particular university offers English-taught programs, check on their website or contact their admissions department. Laura

Hi Ganesh, for a look at all our scholarships listings visit this page - here you'll find scholarships for engineering students specifically and also general US scholarships. Alternatively, take a look at the our ranking of top universities in the US for electronic engineering. This will give you a starting point for finding out whether they offer their own scholarship programs to international students (this information should be available on each school's official website but if not, contact their admissions team).

I hope this helps!

Hi Spandan. All public universities in Germany are free at undergraduate level. Three German universities feature in our ranking of the world's top universities for English language and literature (see here) so these may be a good starting point.

Hi Cephas, Any questions you have can be asked in our forums - here - where you can comment on an existing thread or start a new one. We won't be able to do your research for you however so bear in mind that any questions about particular programs or the admissions process at certain universities will have to be emailed to the university in question. Contact details are readily available on university websites.

To start your search for a great German university for english literature, I suggest taking a look at our subject rankings - here - you can then click on each school's profile (or use a search engine) to find their official website.

In the future, please refrain from posting your contact details on comments or the forums, as once it's online we can't protect your information!

Good luck with your search!

Laura

Hi Mohammad, I can point you in the direction of our latest subject rankings for mechanical engineering - here - there are nine german universities that feature on this list. Click on each school's profile to find a link to their official website - if they do offer tuition free master's programs the information should be found in the section regarding international students.

Alternatively, take a look at the DAAD website - here - where you can find listings of international master's programs in Germany, including information on fees (or lack thereof!)

Good luck! Laura

Hi Laura,

Are there bachelors degrees taught in Germany that are taught in the english language from start to finish? I want to do an Earth Science or Engineering program.
If not start to finish, how about mostly?

I may also have trouble affording to live there unless I work while going to school. Are there universities that offer employment to students that have not yet learned German?

Also, my GPA is relatively low ( I have roughly 45 credits from a school in the US.. Ohio State University ) .. Will this affect where I can go in Germany to finish school?

Thanks!!!!

Hi Laura, I had completed bachelors in commerce in 2010 and afterwards started working in Dubai, only yesterday i came to know that Germany is providing tuition free education to International students now and it was a great news for me since i had to leave my education due to financial problems.
I'm working in Facilities Management Industry and now want to study Bachelors in Business Management, i'd request you to kindly advise if i can apply for the next in take for Germany?? I've a education gap of almost 4 years so will that be a hindrance?? Also, are bachelor studies in Germany also free of cost?? could you provide me any links of good public universities pls??

Hi Shahzad, yes, if accepted onto a program, you would be able to study your bachelor's degree in Germany free of charge. First you'll need to find a university - for a look at some of the leading universities in Germany for social sciences and management, visit this page. Secondly, you should research which universities offer a program you're interested in (visit each university's own site for this). You can also find out specific application deadlines on these university websites but generally the winter deadline is around mid-January (so you may still have time to apply for summer admission!)

For more general information on studying in Germany, visit this page or, alternatively, visit the DAAD site.

Good luck! laura
