The first level Degree in Natural and Environmental Sciences is activated at the Department of Chemistry, Life Sciences and Environmental Sustainability of the University of Parma (Department of Excellence for the years 2018-2022). It belongs to the class of the Degrees in Sciences and Technologies for the Environment and Nature (L-32), and is the perfect choice for those who want to understand how the Earth system functions and responds to human activities, and for those who want to apply this knowledge in the broader context of managing the environment to ensure a sustainable future.

Considering the interdisciplinary nature of the degree, the career opportunities for the graduate in Natural and Environmental Sciences are numerous and varied: planning and management of natural resources; management, conservation and dissemination of natural heritage (Ministry for Agricultural Policies, Ministry of the Environment, homonymous regional, provincial and municipal councils, Mountain Communities, Protected Areas, Museums, Botanical Gardens); Public and private social and health facilities and multidisciplinary professional studies engaged in the organization and coordination of environmental monitoring; in the remediation of contaminated sites; in the formulation of protocols for environmental and quality certification; in the control of waste disposal and treatment; in communication and environmental information activities.

Graduates can access the Professional Register of the jr Biologists, Landscape Architects and Conservation Architects Section B (Planning sector) and Graduate Agrotechnics and Agrotechnics. Furthermore, this first level degree lays the foundations for building a training program which, with the contribution of the master's degree, can orientate to teaching.

Lectures, laboratories and numerous activities in the field provide the student with a solid preparation in the scientific basics and familiarity with the methods of collection, analysis and processing of environmental data. Field activities and field trips form an important part of the course, with excursions (residential and non-residential) each year. These activities offer the opportunity to work in groups and to experiment in the field, with the assistance of the qualified teachers, what has been learned during the study activities in class.

The Internship activities allows the student to get closely in touch with the research activities (in the laboratories of the University), with the working realities of the territory (companies, public administration structures, laboratories, protected areas) and, in the framework of the numerous international agreements, with other universities in Europe and overworld. Many of the educational activities are  located in Cascina Ambolana-Campus of Sciences and Technologies where advanced research is also carried out in the areas of Ecology, Biology and Environmental Biotechnology and where the student will find  a very stimulating context.
