The PhD in Economics is a three-year program of the Universities of Milan and Pavia. The PhD degree is awarded after completion of coursework and defense of an original thesis.
Research is at the core of the PhD Program in Economics and benefits from a very active and committed research community of 18 students and more than 40 Faculty members mainly from the Department of Economics, Management and Quantitative Methods (DEMM) of the University of Milan and the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Pavia. The program aims at training outstanding scholars for professional careers in Universities, Government, or research departments of private and public institutions. To this purpose, we provide training and supervision to doctoral students who want to develop research projects that add new knowledge in Economics.
The successful candidate, after three years of advanced study and research closely supervised by Faculty members, will be able to: i) ask relevant research questions; ii) design a research strategy; iii) use up-to-date modelling and empirical approaches; iv) present the results in articles publishable in international scientific journals. Students develop these skills by doing research in one of six research areas in which our Faculty is at the frontier of economic research: Econometrics, Economic Theory, Individual Decisions and Experimental Economics, Environmental and Energy Economics, Industrial Organization, International Trade, Global Forms and Migration, Labor and Education Economics, Macroeconomics, Monetary and Fiscal Policy Public economics and Policy Evaluation. Students of the program will have access to the research facilities of both Universities. They will be also encouraged to attend seminars which are also regularly organized by both Universities.
We invite expressions of interest from outstanding graduates in the fields of Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Business or other social sciences who hold a Master’s degree or diploma, or expect to graduate by November 30, 2020 and have a strong interest in the field of Economics.
