Sociology is the study of human social behavior and sociologists examine interactions within and between groups and resulting social institutions. The undergraduate program in sociology provides a general analysis and broad understanding of human societies and culture for persons in all fields. Selecting courses around a topic or theme of interest adds meaning to one’s education and strengthens the base of understanding from which one can pursue a career or further education. Two options are currently available for those interested - Crime and Justice, and Environmental and Natural Resource Sociology - although students can shape a custom theme such as international development or social policy. Learning Outcomes Comprehend: be able to recognize and interpret existing sociological knowledge Conceptualize: be able to construct sociological explanations for social phenomena Analyze and Compute: be able to conduct sociological inquiry Interpret: be able to make sociological sense of relevant data

Oregon State University offers assistantships to help students fund graduate school. To enroll as a graduate assistant, you are required to work 156 hours during a period of 13 weeks for a monthly salary of approximately US$3,800.
