The Uzbek State World Languages
University (UzSWLU) was established under the name of Tashkent State Pedagogy and Foreign Languages
Institute in 1949, that is to say, the higher institution has a history of nearly 70 years.
In 1992, after gaining independence, both the title and name of the institution were
changed to the University and World Languages respectively. At the time being, the
campuses of the university are unique places to obtain knowledge and language skills for
more than 22000 students. The university trains bachelors in 26 directions and masters
in 19 specialties based on the “National Program of personnel training”.
Qualified personnel training at the university is conducted following state
educational standards. There are nine faculties in the university: Philological sciences (English, Roman-German,
and Russian), International Journalism, Translation Theory and Practice. There
are 47 departments where 1016 professors (236 PhD) teach different world
languages.

university. The campus is situated at the northeast of Independence square near
the city center of Tashkent. The university has made an effective combination of research on
important scientific issues with the training of personnel with high-level specialized knowledge and professional skills as demanded by the country's modernization
and integration into the world community. It strives not only for simultaneous
improvements in teaching and research work but also for the promotion of
interaction and mutual promotion among various language subjects. Thus, Uzbek State World Languages
University has become a center for teaching and research and a university of the new
type, consisting of diverse branches of learning such as pure and linguistic sciences,
social sciences and the humanities, and sciences of education. It aims to
rank among the world's best universities at the beginning of the near future.
