The University of the South Pacific (USP) is one of only two regional Universities in the world, with the primary mandate to provide appropriate levels of education and training and to be responsive to the well-being and needs of the communities of the South Pacific.
The USP was established in 1968, enacted by a Royal Charter (Charter) granted by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1970. USP is jointly owned and governed by twelve (12) member countries: Cook Islands, Republic of Kiribati, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Republic of Nauru, Niue, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tuvalu, Kingdom of Tonga, Republic of Vanuatu, Samoa and Republic of Fiji. The University headquarters is located at the Laucala campus in Suva, Fiji. USP’s primary objective is to advance and disseminate knowledge by teaching, consultancy and research and innovation.
USP Vision : To shape Pacific futures by empowering students, staff and alumni to become inspirational agents of positive change leading to innovative, cohesive, resilient and sustainable communities.
USP Mission : To influence Pacific Islanders through the pursuit of excellence in knowledge by providing world-class education and research that improves the lives of individuals and communities.
The academic units at USP are organised into Schools, Colleges and Centres. There are six Schools comprising of the School of Accounting, Finance and Economics (SAFE); School of Agriculture, Geography, Environment, Ocean and Natural Sciences (SAGEONS); School of Business and Management (SBM); School of Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Physics (STEMP); School of Law and Social Sciences (SoLaSS); and School of Pacific Arts, Communication and Education (SPACE). Each School encapsulates various disciplines, which offer a wide range of academic programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In addition, the Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE) provides pre-degree and skills-based programmes and study pathways. The Pacific Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development (PACE-SD) offers Climate Change programmes at the postgraduate level.
