About University of Hull
The University of Hull was formed in 1927, making us the 14th oldest university in England. With a proud history of academic excellence and creating and inspiring life-changing research, we have a tradition of providing opportunity for all, in a friendly student city.
We are committed to social justice and sustainability and are serious about our role in the economic, social and cultural life of the region, nation and global partnership.
Hull is the only university to be an Official Partner of Team GB. This exclusive six-year partnership presents opportunities for joint research and enterprise projects, and career-boosting opportunities for our students.
Teaching Excellence
With gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (2023) – the highest possible ranking for teaching quality and student success, at Hull you can learn from academics at the forefront of their field and be part of a vibrant teaching and research community. We are committed to delivering a truly up-to-date, international curriculum and identifying opportunities during your studies such as work placements and overseas study tours. Many of our programmes enhance your career potential through incorporated professional and employability skills modules. Indeed, an impressive 93.9% of students are in work or further study fifteen months after graduating (UK-domicile full-time first-degree leavers; Higher Education Graduate Outcomes statistics for the academic year 2019-20, published by Higher Education Statistics Agency July 2022).
Faculties/Medical School
The University comprises 16 schools specialising in arts, cultures and education, business, law, politics, health sciences, physical sciences, and engineering. It collaborates with the University of York to run the Hull York Medical School.
Research with Impact
Our vision to be a research-led, civic university is focused on making a difference with research that can impact people’s lives. Hull has been featured twice in Universities UK's list of '100 discoveries by British Universities which changed the world' with our bone density scanner and the globally-renowned breakthrough in LCD technology. Today, we’re in the top 50 UK universities for research impact (REF 2021). We have a research agenda tackling some of the largest global issues, from health to habitats, food to flooding and supply chains to slavery. Our research institutes also work tirelessly to find solutions to some of the biggest challenges currently facing our world.
The University has pledged to become Carbon Neutral by 2027, which marks the University's 100th anniversary. Our vision is to shape a fairer, brighter, carbon-neutral future for all. We plan to deliver on this by preparing outstanding graduates to help solve critical, complex, global challenges and thought-provoking, game-changing research that advances knowledge to inform policy and practice.
Student Support
We want our students to reach their full potential, so we offer support throughout their studies.
Each student is allocated a Personal Supervisor to meet with throughout the year – they give academic advice and are a student’s first point of contact for feedback and guidance. Hull also has a Skills Team in the Library to help students develop academic and digital skills to enhance study and research skills. Through bookable appointments, group sessions and online resources, the team supports students in general studying, writing, referencing, resource discovery, analysis, presentation and ICT.
Our Student Services team also provide advice on matters like health and wellbeing, visas and immigration – ensuring students can get the most out of everything the university has to offer.
