Genetics and Evolution (Shrewsbury) (Foundation)

Genetics and evolution lie at the heart of biology. Evolutionary principles give us an understanding of health and disease and how life may change in the future. The number of organisms that have been genome sequenced allows deeper probing of Darwin’s ideas – which have consequences in evolutionary biology, medicine, medical genetics and biotechnology. This course is for you if you: have an interest in how life on earth evolved; wish to study how evolution has shaped our environment; want to understand how we can manipulate genes or gene expression to improve crop production or cure genetic disease; or want to contribute effectively to the debate on the ethics of genetic engineering.
