The aims of Coastal and Marine Management program are to undertake scholarly research in need-based areas of marine science; to provide high-quality education, hands-on experience and training in coastal and marine management; to disseminate knowledge and facilitate its application to scientific, social and economic problems related to coastal and marine environment and resources. Its objectives are to provide advance knowledge to build up post-graduates are capable to plan and design experiment for innovative research in the areas related to coastal and marine management; to produce post-graduates that are able to develop strategies and policy for the development in the coastal and marine environments on a long run basis; to build up and trained post-graduates as workforce for sustainable development in coastal and marine based industries both on local and international levels; to acquire knowledge through research and develop leadership in all aspects of coastal and marine management.
Upon graduation, graduates are expected to be able to synthesize knowledge in sustainable management of coastal and marine resources and environment; able to adapt practical skills leading towards innovative ideas in sustainable management of resources in the coastal and marine environments; to identify the right techniques in analysing and evaluating different forms of facts and figures related to coastal and marine science; to provide professional services to society on issues related to coastal and marine environment and resources; to differentiate the interactions between human induced activities and its effects on coastal and marine ecosystems, and capable to take appropriate measures; to be able to design new experiment, collection of specific data, analyse data with suitable techniques and finally interpret to produce scientific reports independently; adhere to ethical issues and professional code of conduct in research; to be competent in the presentation of research report both orally and in writing, can work effectively with peers, scholarly communities, stakeholders, and showing leadership quality; to be able to appraise problems related to coastal and marine environment and resources critically using scientific skills; able to integrate components of research to develop lifelong learning for sustainable development and exploitation of coastal and marine resources.
