Termez State University

Termez State University (TerSU) , originally established in 1954 as the Termez Pedagogical Institute and restructured into a comprehensive university in 1992, has progressively evolved into one of Uzbekistan’s foremost institutions of higher education and scientific research. Strategically located in the culturally and historically significant city of Termez, the university has garnered a strong reputation for academic excellence, international engagement, and impactful contributions to regional and national development.

Currently, TerSU maintains active partnerships with more than 100 esteemed universities and research institutions around the world. These include prominent institutions such as Jiangsu University and Northwest University (China), the University of Salento (Italy), the University of Poitiers (France), California State University (USA), University College London and Cardiff University (United Kingdom), University Utara Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Perlis, and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (Malaysia), Aligarh Muslim University and Mumbai University of Technology (India), Charles University (Czech Republic), Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Auezov South Kazakhstan State University, and L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (Kazakhstan), as well as Gedik University, Istanbul University, and Ege University (Turkey). The university engages in a wide spectrum of collaborative initiatives, including joint educational programs, co-funded scientific research projects, academic staff and student exchange programs, and dual-degree arrangements, thereby fostering a dynamic and globally integrated academic environment. For instance, TerSU has successfully established joint degree programs with Jiangsu University (China), Vladimir State University (Russian Federation), and Polotsk State University (Belarus), reflecting its commitment to expanding transnational education.

TerSU's archaeological endeavors have led to significant discoveries that shed light on the region's past. In 2023, the university collaborated on an interdisciplinary study of the "Palace of Termezshahs," a heritage site dating back to the 11th–12th centuries. This project aimed to explore the architectural and cultural significance of the site.

Another notable project includes the excavation at Lungi Tepa, conducted in partnership with Charles University and other international institutions. This research focused on prehistoric and early historic settlements in the Surkhan Darya Province, providing insights into human adaptation along the Silk Roads.

Additionally, TerSU researchers discovered a cache of 10 copper coins at the Qirqqiz monument, a site with historical significance due to its strategic location and ancient salt deposits. This find contributes to the understanding of economic activities and trade in the region during antiquity.

Artifacts unearthed through TerSU's excavations are often curated and displayed at the Termez Archaeological Museum. The museum, renowned for its extensive collection of over 40,000 artifacts, serves as a vital resource for researchers and the public alike. It showcases items ranging from household utensils to ancient coins and sculptures, reflecting the diverse cultural history of the region.

Through these multifaceted efforts, Termez State University continues to play a crucial role in uncovering and preserving the archaeological heritage of Central Asia, fostering a deeper understanding of the region's historical significance.

Comprising 12 academic faculties, TerSU offers a comprehensive selection of over 120 undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs, currently serving a diverse and dynamic student body of more than 24,000 individuals. The university takes pride in its distinguished alumni, which include Olympic medalists and numerous champions of world and Asian competitions, exemplifying TerSU’s dedication to nurturing athletic excellence alongside academic achievement.

The university's state-of-the-art 21.2-hectare main campus encompasses 10 core academic buildings, three regional branch campuses, an academic lyceum, a dedicated scientific research center, a modern sports complex equipped with advanced facilities, and seven well-maintained student dormitories, all contributing to a holistic and supportive educational environment.

Moreover, TerSU actively participates in a range of prestigious international academic initiatives, such as the Erasmus+ programs (including TUCAHEA, INTRAS, PAWER, and TRIGGER), and maintains productive collaborations with globally recognized organizations such as the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the American Council, and the British Council (IELTS). These engagements play a vital role in further strengthening the university’s global academic presence, research capabilities, and institutional development.
