Neurodevelopmental disorders start very early in life – often even before birth. This MSc course will explore their causes and how to effectively manage autism and ADHD. Studying within the IOPPN, students will learn from experts leading the way in the field, creating new treatments and improving practice through groundbreaking research. Students will develop their understanding of 'neurotypical' brain development. This will help students to understand the biological basis of neurodevelopmental disorders and the impact they have. At the same time, this course will explore areas like intellectual disability and research methods. A real highlight of this course is learning how research can be applied to practice. On this course, students will discuss different brain imaging methods and basic genetics. This course involves a placement which will guarantee students to spend time in a clinic that specifically deals with neurodevelopmental disorders. King’s is a joint lead on Autism Innovative Medicine Studies-2-Trials (AIMS-2-Trials), the world’s largest autism grant. As a student at King’s, one will work alongside the experts. Students may use the data for their dissertation projects.
