Kazan State Medical University

Kazan State Medical University (KSMU) is one of the leadingand oldest medical schools in Russia. Established in 1814 as a Medical Facultyof Kazan Emperor University, KSMU currently is a multi-level state educationalinstitution of Russian Ministry of Healthcare that exceeds standards in medicaleducation through the continued development of biomedical and clinical sciencesin order to improve population health.

Being home to more than 6000 students, residents and 1800 staffmembers, KSMU consists of nine faculties and medical-pharmaceutical collegewhich offer specialty programs as well as bachelor and postgraduate degreeprograms in Clinical Medicine, Basic Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Pharmacy,Nursing and Social Work. With modern laboratories, numerous well-equipped teachinghospitals and dedicated faculty members, KSMU provides an excellent environmentfor training of competitive medical doctors, scientists, pharmacists and socialworkers with competencies matching the highest international standards.

For more than 200 years KSMU has significantlycontributed to advances in biomedical science and the translation of basicscience achievements to clinical medicine. The scientific schools of Physiology,Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Pharmacology & Pharmacy, Internal Medicine, PublicHealth, Hygiene, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology are widely recognized atnational and international levels. KSMU greatly promotes the propagation of newtechnologies in the international medical community through continuous professionaldevelopment of specialists, organization of scientific conferences andcongresses founded on the basis of cooperation with healthcare authoritiestowards the development of new standards for diagnosis and treatment.

Today more than 1000 international students from 57countries are represented at KSMU, which equates to eighteen percent of theenrolled population. KSMU is actively involved in global health, the UNAcademic Impact Initiative, and the International Federation of MedicalStudents Association activities. KSMU provides excellent opportunities for itsstudents and faculty members to undergo extensive clinical and scientifictrainings in more than 30 countries world-wide. According to the AcademicRanking of World Universities-European Standard ARES-2018, KSMU placed thirdamong all medical schools in Russia.
