The Haute école de musique de Genève (HEM) is an institution of higher education in music based in Geneva and Neuchâtel, Switzerland .
The HEM trains the versatile musicians of tomorrow by accompanying them in the development of their artistic personality. The HEM training program is carried out with high-level and committed professionals, within a multi-site infrastructure. Attended by over 600 students from five continents, the HEM offers a stimulating international environment, as well as a unique quality of life, at the crossroads of cultural Europe.
The HEM awards its students Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music, and offers continuing education, that opens up a variety of professional prospects for them: performers, teachers, cultural project managers or creators. These perspectives are reinforced by the close collaboration with local, national and international cultural actors.
As an institution of higher education, the HEM also conducts research, particularly in the fields of historically informed performance, musical creation and new technologies, approaches to music via psychology and neuroscience, and dialogue with non western music. These research activities are kept in tune with artistic practice, in a spirit of creativity and innovation that allows students to develop their reflective and critical abilities.
The HEM is part of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland (HES-SO), a major French-language university with 21,000 students.
