The Department of Anthropology and Tribal Development established in the year 1989, bears a great significance in view of the tribal populations living in the State of Chhattisgarh with diverse cultures. Anthropology as the “Science of the Men” has a strong commitment for the welfare and all round integrated development of the weaker sections of the State. The department aims to generate qualified, skillful and committed anthropologists to play a catalytic role as social advisers to policy makers in matters relating to various issues on tribal development. The department also study and suggests remedial measures with respect to eradication of hunger, malnutrition and tribal development. The Department provides both UG (Hons) and PG programs in anthropology. The department has incorporated subjects like Forensic Anthropology & Criminology, Research Methodology, Human Biology & Molecular Genetics, Medical Anthropology, Ecological Anthropology, Visual Anthropology, Applied and Development Anthropology, Human Genetics, Bio-social Problems of Indian Populations. At Masters level the department provides Specialization/Elective Courses. The specializations include Social Anthropology & Tribal Development and Biological Anthropology & Human Genetics.
