The curriculum has two paths:  1. musicology path  2. artistic research path in the field of music or theatre  Depending on the pathway, the curriculum consists of an academic doctoral thesis and doctoral studies or an artistic research project and doctoral studies. 
The curriculum is divided into the following modules:  A Doctoral thesis or artistic research project 180 ECTS  B Core studies in support of the doctoral thesis or artistic research project 30 ECTS  C Additional studies and practical experience required to achieve the learning outcomes of doctoral studies 30 ECTS.

Bachelor programme in music with English as the study language offers the following main subjects (majors):

  • Classical music: piano, harpsichord, organ, violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, classical guitar, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, french horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, euphonium, percussion, accordion, estonian harp, voice, choral conducting

  • Jazz music: voice, guitar, percussion, bass, keyboards, wind instruments, violin

  • Composition and music technology

The curriculum provides students, who already have a musical background, with an education of a high international standard, responding to the requirements of contemporary musical life. It also supports an open social and cultural learning environment that assists in mastering and applying the knowledge and skills both related to the field of specialisation and to other subjects described in the curriculum, creates conditions for developing human self-reflection and a holistic understanding of the world and develops communicative competence, sense of responsibility, leadership and collaboration skills of the students.

A Bachelor's Degree generally takes 3 years to complete. After completing it, you may take a 2-year Master's programme.

Master's programme in music with English as the study language offers the following main subjects (majors):

  • Classical music: piano, harpsichord, organ, violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, classical guitar, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion, accordion, Estonian kannel, voice, choral conducting, orchestral conducting, wind orchestra conducting, chamber ensemble, accompaniment class, early music performance
  • Jazz music: voice, guitar, percussion, bass, keyboards, brass and woodwind instruments, violin
  • Contemporary improvisation
  • Composition and music technology
  • Contemporary performance and composition - joint programme with Kungl. Musikhögskolani Stockholm (Sweden), Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon (France), and Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg (Germany) (admission in every two years)

In addition to curriculum in music, following curricula are available:

A Master's Degree generally takes 2 years to complete. After completing it, you may take a 4-year Doctoral programme.
