Cost of Living
Dehradun offers the amenities of a state capital—hospitals, markets, cafes, and direct links to Delhi and the hills—without the rents of metro cities. A modest budget goes considerably further here, with clean mountain air an added advantage.
Hostels. Separate boys' and girls' hostels are available on campus and nearby, in two- and three-seater occupancy, AC and non-AC, with attached or common washrooms. All rooms include basic furniture, Wi-Fi, and 24×7 power backup. Fees for 2026–27 range from INR 85,000 to INR 150,000 per annum, rising with occupancy, washroom type, and air conditioning; the off-campus girls' hostel offers two-seater rooms at INR 95,000 (non-AC) and INR 135,000 (AC). Students choose according to budget. The fee also covers laundry, first aid and 24×7 ambulance service, mess and canteen, CCTV surveillance, resident wardens, common rooms with TV and indoor games, gymnasium, sports facilities, ATM and vending services—support that matters as much as the room for students living away from home for the first time.
Private accommodation. PG and shared flats in Manduwala, Nanda Ki Chowki, Prem Nagar, and Sudhowala cost INR 5,000–12,000 per month, depending on meals, and are all a short shared ride from campus.
Monthly expenses. Excluding accommodation, students typically spend INR 4,000–6,000 on food outside the mess, mobile data, toiletries, stationery, local travel, and outings. A meal at a university canteen costs INR 60–120; shared autos and e-rickshaws cost INR 20–50 per trip. Textbook costs stay low, as the Central Library and its digital subscriptions provide extensive reference material.
Transport. University buses serve Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Paonta Sahib, charged annually by distance. No personal transport is required.
A residential student spends INR 100,000–175,000 per year, including accommodation, food, and personal expenses; day scholars save appreciably. Program-specific costs—uniforms and kits for hospitality, nursing, paramedical, design, and architecture and drawing materials—are included in the fee.
Merit scholarships, domicile concessions, category-based support, and facilitated education loans through partner banks lower the effective cost further, allowing students to study without metropolitan financial pressures.
