A public university based in the township of Ewing, the College of New Jersey was originally set up to train high school graduates to be teachers. The stated mission of the college is to keep talented students within New Jersey, rather than have them seek education abroad or in other states.
The college is split into seven different schools, each with a different academic focus. These schools are: School of Arts and Communication, School of Business, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Education, School of Engineering, School of Nursing, Health & Exercise Science, and School of Science.
While the majority of academic focus is on undergraduate learning, there are roughly 700 postgraduates among the 7,340 students at the college. Graduate programs in education are also offered at a number of international locations through the college, including Thailand, Spain and South Africa.
