Guided by the major principles of mutual understanding and respect for human beliefs, ideas and intentions, support and guidance in choosing the learning path and acquisition of highly professional skills and field knowledge, Chelyabinsk State University is the first classic university to be established in Chelyabinsk in 1976. With three branches in the Russian cities of Miass, Troitsk and in the city of Kostanay (Republic of Kazakhstan), the University provides professional training in various fields of knowledge: mathematics and natural sciences; engineering, technology and technical sciences; agriculture and agricultural sciences; social sciences; education and pedagogical sciences; and humanitarian sciences.
Set up with the vision to train future professionals in most sought-after fields and following international educational standards, CSU has over 200 programs taught at 18 faculties, educational and scientific and institutes and one college, including Vocational programs, Bachelor Degree programs, Specialist Degree programs, Master Degree programs, Postgraduate (Ph.D) programs, and Higher Doctorate (Post PhD) programs. With the total number of 21 000 students, CSU provides training in various full-time and part-time forms.
The University is expanding its reach across international boundaries and is welcoming more international students on campus each year, recently reaching a total of 4,500 international students, including students in Kazakhstan branch, students arriving from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tadjikistan, and Belarus, China, Egypt, Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Cameroon, Congo, Nigeria, Soudan, Senegal, Morocco, Algeria, Mali and many more. As a member of the Association of Classical Universities of Russia, the Eurasian Universities Association, and International Association of Universities created under the auspices of UNESCO, CSU has been in cooperation with over 50 partner organizations including universities, institutes, and research centres in Europe, Asia and neighbouring countries.
The University has more than 30 research schools. All research and innovation activities are supported by cooperation with leading research centers, foundations and organizations in Russia and abroad. In 2020, initiated by CSU leaders, a representative office of the Ural branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences was opened in the University. With growing number of CSU grant holders, CSU is increasing the number of research papers published and indexed in various databases, such as RSCI, Web of Science and Scopus. The Hirsch University index for publications in the RSCI is 74. The University library fund contains more than 800 thousand books, brochures and magazines.
CSU has created the conditions for training students with disabilities, developing an innovative system of higher education of pre-university training, inclusive learning, distance learning technologies and study support.
