Bayburt University

Officially established with the law no. 5165 dated May 22, 2008, our university is a young generation university where the roots of our higher education in Bayburt dates back to 32 years ago. Bayburt Vocational School, which is considered the beginning stage of the institutionalization story of our university and was established under Atatürk University, started its activities at the associate degree level on 12 December 1990. The establishment of Bayburt, Bayburt Faculty of Education, which was opened on March 23, 2002 within the body of Atatürk University, lead to the establishment of an independent university, as it is a faculty-level institution.

In the 2008-2009 academic year, in addition to establisment of Bayburt Vocational School and Bayburt Faculty of Education, our University, our university started education in our Dede Korkut Complex with 7 units, namely Bayburt Vocational School of Health Services, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Social Sciences Institute and Science Institute, which has 12 associate and undergraduate degrees in total. Our corporate story started with founding Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Mollamahmutoğlu and continued with the establishment of our University's Bâbertî Complex, which has continued to grow academically, culturally, socially and sportively since the first moment, in 2011, and life in the Complex began with the Guesthouse, Conference Hall and 1st Stage Lodgings completed in 2014. In this process, the Faculty of Theology built in 2012 and the School of Physical Education and Sports built in 2013 were added to the academic units of our University. Our third Rector, Prof. Dr. Selçuk Coşkun who was appointed in 2013, continued our successful rise as he took over after the second Rector, Prof. Dr. After Gökhan Budak. In 2015, the certificate of honorary doctorate was given to the current President of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, by our Rector Prof. Dr. Selçuk Coşkun. In the same year, the establishment of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Health Sciences were completed.

The beginning of education in our Bâbertî Kulliye took place in 2016 with the completion of the Faculty of Education building, after the first establisment of which was laid in 2014. In the same year, Aydıntepe Vocational School and Demirözü Vocational School were opened together with the Vocational School of Justice, the Faculty of Applied Sciences.The academic growth continued with the opening of the Faculty of Art and Design, Vocational School of Social Sciences and Vocational School of Technical Sciences in 2017, gained momentum with the decision to transform the School of Applied Sciences ,built in 2016, into a Faculty in 2018. In 2019, with the gathering of the Social Sciences and Sciences Institutes under the roof of the Graduate Education Institute, the graduate education processes started to be carried out from a single center. Since 2021, Prof. Dr. Mutlu Türkmen has established a managerial system that stands out in sports, academia and student-participated project innovation. In this context, Vocational School of Physical Education and Sports (2013) was transformed into the Faculty of Sports Sciences (2021) in the first year of duty of Rector Prof. Dr. Mutlu Türkmen.

Bayburt University focused on institutionalization by implying keywords; namely, 'University of Champions' with the aim of becoming a leader school in sports, 'Smart Science Academy' with the aim of applying the concept of 'common sense' emphasizing the common sense and truth-oriented society in academia, and 'Project Mobilization' with the aim of integrating the project-centered new generation university.
