QS-Alliance Manchester Business School Scholarship 2020 Winner: Magda Ciornii

Every year, QS partners with Alliance Manchester Business School to offer the QS-Alliance Manchester Business School Masters Scholarship, offered exclusively to attendees of the QS World Grad School Tour who have been accepted at Alliance Manchester.

The scholarship covers 50 percent of tuition fees for two students to study a one-year MSc program at the school, and one of this year’s winners is Magda Ciornii. We spoke to her to learn more about her plans and to ask what advice she'd offer to other scholarship applicants.

What are you planning to study, and why did you choose Alliance Manchester Business School?

Undoubtedly, Alliance Manchester Business School stood out in my search for a postgraduate degree program in Marketing and this is not only because of its top position in the world ranking, but also because there is so much more to it: highly qualified professors, strong research focus, supportive and dedicated staff, international cohorts and endless opportunities to interact and learn form the best.

What do you hope to gain from your degree? How will it affect your career plans?

I believe a degree in Marketing obtained from AMBS opens the door wide to countless possibilities. It will have an immense impact on my future career as all the knowledge, insights and experience gained during the postgraduate program will prepare and empower me to secure a job in a company with a global impact, where my contribution will make a difference in the world.

How many sources of financial aid did you approach?

Unfortunately, I did not have access to many sources of financial aid. When I discovered I was eligible to apply for a QS scholarship I realized it was one in a million opportunity, which could bring me to my dream university and ease the burden of financial sponsorship.

What difference will this scholarship make to you?

To be honest, the QS scholarship made all the difference in the world. It was such a huge support and had the final say in my decision to attend the AMBS postgraduate program this year. Without it I would consider deferring my offer, which would set my career development plans back. Therefore, I am extremely grateful that my application was successful.

What advice do you have for other prospective students who are applying for scholarships?

Firstly, I would advise you to write about something genuine, something you have experienced, and be completely honest because this is an opportunity to express yourself and let your voice be heard.

Secondly, give yourself some time to reflect on potential topics you might touch in your essay.

Finally, bear the deadline in mind. Make sure you have a time buffer, so plan your application wisely.
