We go live with Joël McConnell to learn how Imperial is responding to COVID-19

Watch the video above to hear McConnell's answers in full, but we've also excerpted some useful information below.

What support can Imperial offer its students with visas, fees and accommodation?

It's business as usual for visas, housing and visa processing. Our multi-modal/multistream approach actually gives added flexibility if local visa processing is tricky.

What is Imperial doing to bring a STEM and tech focus to entrepreneurship?

Imperial College London is about STEM and business, and so coming to Imperial College Business School really offers aspiring entrepreneurs unparallelled opportunities to connect with engineers, scientists, and medical professionals to launch cross-functional business ideas that go on to scale after graduation.

We also have the exciting new campus at White City, where the Business School will have added teaching space. It’s also not too far from the new Soho House property in White City as well.

What should prospective international students be aware of when applying?

Different from standalone business schools, ICBS is part of Imperial College London, a top-tier, Russell Group university. This means that you not only have access to all the resources ICBS has to offer, but also the other resources across College. That ICL is focused solely on STEM and business means you are choosing to study at a school that is very atuned to what is being talked about across all industries at the moment.

We had about 20,000 applications for less than 2,000 places in our 20 or so postgraduate programs (factoring in different intakes and formats), so it’s highly competitive. Apply as early as you can, submit a complete application, take the interviews seriously, and ideally speak to an ICL alumni as you prepare your application.

Remember, ICBS is the business school of a globally ranked STEM university, so regardless of whether your coming to study finance, general management, or something more specialized, we need to understand why the program is right for you, and why you are set on a place at ICBS specifically.

What can you tell us about diversity and inclusion at Imperial?

First and foremost: nine out of 10 students at ICBS are from outside the UK, so it’s by design a highly diverse school. At ICBS, we actively support organizations like Bright Network, Forte Foundation, and Reaching Out MBA (ROMBA), and we have targeted clubs focused on helping specific target groups advance their careers as well, such as the LGBTQ+ Business Club.

Is Imperial looking towards a blended model of traditional and online learning for the Fall term, or online only?

With all that is going on at the moment, it’s important to have both face-to-face and remote learning available to students this autumn – so that we can adapt regardless of what happens. And yes, we’re all (even staff!) looking forward to getting back to campus full-time.

That said, we are offering multi-modal and multistreaming this autumn, which will allow us to offer the best options possible to our students, and again, we’re looking at using set transition points to help candidates move between formats.
