For the first time ever, we’ve published a separate ranking of the top institutions in India and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay earns the honor of being crowned the best institution in India in this inaugural ranking. One of seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) in the top 10, IIT Bombay was the highest scorer for both academic and employer reputation, two of the metrics used to compile the ranking (more information about the methodology can be found here).

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore is ranked second, having also achieved the highest score for two indicators (papers per faculty and staff with PhD). Incredibly, 11 institutions achieved a perfect score of 100 for the staff with PhD indicator, demonstrating the strong research focus at many top Indian institutions.
