Find my courseAbout Kochi University of Technology (KUT)
Kochi University of Technology (KUT) was established in April 1997 as a private university, but in 2009 it transformed to a public university first in Japan. With its solid financial position thanks to the support of the Kochi prefectural government, KUT could operate innovatively since it gained the know-how needed for independent and autonomous operation through its experiences as a private university.
Since its establishment, KUT has been working towards our lofty ideal, “Making KUT a world class university through the pursuit of unique excellence”. We pride ourselves on developing advanced innovations that emphasize freedom from the constraints of conventional practice.
KUT's revolutionary design, introducing innovations never before seen in universities in Japan, contributed greatly to development in university education. Despite its relatively small scale, KUT has had a strong presence with its distinctive character and progressive education system. Notably, KUT took the lead in adopting a quarter system to enable intensive learning in Japan. Valuing student autonomy, KUT has no compulsory courses.
In addition, we have been working in various ways to promote international exchange. In 2013, our International House was constructed on the Kami campus, establishing a convenient and comfortable environment for international students. This facility is also expected to greatly enhance the awareness of KUT students of the excitement and value of international exchange.
Kochi is not a big city but students can experience unique and traditional activities which are not possible in larger cities.
The university offers undergraduate / postgraduate programs in Engineering, and Economics and Management.
