Important Dates
Typically a 2:1 honours degree from a UK university, or international equivalent, in economics or joint honours with a major component of economics. You are expected to have a good standard in mathematics (eg. calculus, matrix algebra, constrained optimisation) and statistics (eg. probability theory, statistical inference, hypothesis testing, simple regressions) achieved at undergraduate level.
If you have a 2:1 degree in a related subject that is highly quantitative (eg finance, statistics, operations research, mathematics, engineering) you may be considered with approval from an academic selector. The selector will use the degree syllabus and / or letters of reference as evidence of understanding and suitability.

Entry requirements
Academic requirements
• For entry onto our Masters’ courses you should hold a 2:1 honours degree or international equivalent. We have experience in evaluating qualifications from many different countries and welcome applications from students with equivalent European and international qualifications .
• Some of our Masters’ courses have specific subject requirements; please see individual course web pages for further information
English language requirements
• You will need a good level of written and spoken English to study at Newcastle and should be able to demonstrate your proficiency.
To study on our courses, you will need to meet our Band 6 English language requirements.
• If your first language is not English you can demonstrate your English language ability with one of the tests below or another alternative we accept.
• IELTS 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in all sub-skills
• If you have lower English language scores, you may be accepted onto a pre-sessional English course.
