The University of Cambridge is widely regarded as one of the best universities in the world, ranked top in the UK and fourth globally. However, it isn’t just the world-leading education that makes this small UK city a great place for students – Cambridge has a wealth of fantastic attractions that capture the hearts of many.
Here are just five of the many reasons why Cambridge is so great for students.
1. You’ll find everything you need
Cambridge has a number of shopping centers, including the Grand Arcade and the Lion Yard. You’ll find all kinds of high-street shops, including Topshop, Schuh and Hollister; plenty of opportunities to maximize your student discount! There’s also a number of cinemas and leisure centers within walking distance of the university, and, with multitudes of fantastic restaurants throughout the town, you won’t be short of options for eating out.
2. London is only a short journey away
The big smoke is under an hour’s journey on the train from Cambridge (or slightly longer, depending on the route), so you’re in the perfect location if you fancy a day trip or weekend break to the capital. The last train back is usually about 1am, so you might even fancy enjoying dinner and a few cocktails in London before heading back to Cambridge for the night.
3. You’ll meet a diverse array of people
Cambridge is one of the most famous places to work and study in the world. Every year thousands of students from all corners of the globe head to this beautiful university city to begin a new chapter of their lives. You can expect to meet all kinds of unique and interesting people from a whole host of different backgrounds.

4. There’s a great music scene
Going out and letting off some steam is a huge part of the university experience, and if you’re considering studying in Cambridge then this aspect of student life won’t disappoint! Cambridge has a vibrant music scene with a number of music venues, where you will find a wide range of major acts, as well as up-and-coming bands to get into. The Junction or the Corn Exchange are just a couple of popular venues hosting gigs and shows. There are also a number of bars and clubs to head out to with your friends, and the usual packed calendar of student events.
5. The surroundings are stunning
Known for its picturesque streets, gardens, architecture and surrounding countryside, Cambridge is the perfect location to sit back and relax, or even some time exploring the great outdoors. The stunning town is one of few which allow the feeling of being at one with nature inside a popular university city.
Your time studying in Cambridge shouldn’t go by without a visit to Anglesey Abbey, the university’s Botanic Garden, The Backs or Wandlebury Country Park and Nature Reserve.
These are just five of the many reasons you will have a brilliant time studying in Cambridge. In fact, you might love the city so much you’ll want to stay and work there after you graduate.
