Collaboration is the heart of our chemistry program. Our teaching philosophy is to foster a colleague relationship between you and our faculty. For example, classroom lectures are active learning environments where you work directly with faculty on problem solving skills. You will also partner with faculty on undergraduate research opportunities, lab teaching assistantships, and service projects. To succeed in chemistry, be ready to work hard and develop an aptitude for critical thinking and problem solving. But don’t worry; it’s not all work and no play. Our chemistry majors enjoy a dedicated hang-out area and spend lots of time having fun and working on projects with faculty members in this close-knit department. The Science Center has been designed with the student/faculty collaboration in mind, with dedicated research spaces and an awesome student study zone. Major Requirements: CHEM 121 - General Chemistry I CHEM 122 - General Chemistry II CHEM 192 - Chemistry Freshman Seminar CHEM 221 - Organic Chemistry I CHEM 222 - Organic Chemistry II CHEM 251 - Quantitative Chemical Analysis CHEM 292 - Chemistry Sophomore Seminar CHEM 321 - Physical Chemistry I CHEM 323 - Instrumental Analysis CHEM 324 - Inorganic Chemistry CHEM 308 - Forensic Chemistry CHEM 308L - Forensic Chemistry Laboratory CHEM 392 - Chemistry Junior Seminar CHEM 398 - Chemistry Internship CHEM 399 - Chemistry Internship or CHEM 499 - Undergraduate Research CHEM 405 - Biochemistry CHEM 492 - Chemistry Seminar BIOL 111 - Introduction to Biology: Molecules, Cells, and Animal Physiology and BIOL 301 - Genetics or BIOL 401 - Cell and Molecular Biology PHYS 121 - General Physics I PHYS 122 - General Physics II MATH 121 - Calculus with Analytic Geometry I MATH 122 - Calculus with Analytic Geometry II MATH 215 - Introductory Statistics SOC 101 - General Sociology SOC 309 - Crime and Delinquency SOC 306 - Sociology of Criminal Justice PHYS 308 - Forensic Physics or CHEM 300-400 level elective course Three elective credits from the following: CHEM 398 - Chemistry Internship CHEM 399 - Chemistry Internship CHEM 401 - Principles of Spectroscopy CHEM 404 - Advanced Organic Chemistry CHEM 407 - Biochemistry II CHEM 410 - Special Topics in Chemistry CHEM 499 - Undergraduate Research or SOC 325 - The American Courts System SOC 335 - Sociological Perspectives on Policing SOC 337 - Criminal Investigation SOC 340 - Sociology of Corrections
