The interdisciplinary Bachelor's programme in Development Studies focuses on economic, social and political processes linked to development cooperation. As our student, you learn to critically examine global and local preconditions and processes of development. The scientific traditions from four disciplines are combined in the study plan: Sociology, Political Science, Human Geography and Economic History. Our students get both a multi-disciplinary perspective on development studies and an opportunity to deepen their knowledge in any of these four subjects. You will get both the theoretical knowledge and the practical skills needed for jobs in the development sector. Upon graduation you can continue with Master’s and Doctoral studies; or pursue various positions within government agencies, private firms and NGOs.

Lund University in Sweden offers ten Bachelor’s degrees in English (BSc, BFA, BM) within the fields of science, medicine & health, business, economics & management, international studies & social sciences, and fine & performing arts.

The University is dedicated to helping students reach their full potential by providing an extensive orientation programme where new students are introduced to the University and life in Sweden. This includes a mentor programme where new arrivals get to meet current students who can then introduce them to Lund’s student life.

Tuition fees

Students who are citizens of countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland are generally required to pay tuition fees. Tuition fees do not apply for EU/EEA citizens. Most programmes are $12 000–$17 000 per year. However, students can receive financial aid and scholarships.


Entry requirements

To meet the general admission requirements for the Bachelor’s level, all students must have successfully completed their upper secondary education and be able to demonstrate proficiency in English by means of an internationally recognised test, e.g. TOEFL, IELTS, or the equivalent.

There may be some other country-specific requirements and individual degree programmes may have additional entry requirements. The main application period for international students is mid October–15 January for all programmes starting in the autumn semester (late August) each year.

Lund University students can also enrol in a Pre-Master’s Preparation Programme for students who wish to boost their academic study and English language skills.

Most programmes at Lund University require a level of English equivalent to IELTS 6.5.
