During the two-year Master's programme in Materials and Nanotechnology with specialisation in Materials Technology, you will obtain an understanding of the issues that industrial production companies, consulting engineering companies, certification companies, and research institutions meet when they produce and use materials. Furthermore, you will learn how to apply this knowledge in practice.  You will gain knowledge of different engineering materials such as plastic, composite materials, alloys, and steel, while you also gain a competence profile in the field of solid mechanics. The programme is cross-disciplinary and contains elements from physics, chemistry, nanotechnology, and traditional mechanical engineering.
In your semester projects, you and your project group will work with complex and often interdisciplinary issues in relation to materials technology. You are encouraged to occasionally collaborate with external organisations and businesses in your projects to get an idea of the work processes and current issues in the industry. This will prepare you better for your own work life after you graduate.

Aalborg University offers interdisciplinary studies where bachelor courses (basic study programmes) are followed by masters and Ph.D. courses (subsequent specialisation). The university offers 10 different undergraduate programmes in English across five faculties:

  • The Faculty of Humanities
  • The Technical Faculty of IT and Design
  • The Faculty of Social Sciences
  • The Faculty of Engineering and Science
  • The Faculty of Medicine

Each of the five faculties has its own schools with full time bachelor education spanning over three years and designed to prepare students for master and Ph.D. education at a high academic and international level. Since the Ph.D. programmes are focussed on training researchers, students are researching independently and being actively involved in Aalborg’s research community.

All study programmes at AAU are based on a unique model of teaching and learning: the problem based and project organized model based on real life challanges, also referred to as "The PBL Model" and "The Aalborg Model". This model has become both nationally and internationally recognized as an advanced and efficient learning model, and ot is a trademark for Aalborg University.

Aalborg University is among the world's leading universities regarding research within health technology, wireless communication, energy, computer science, innovation economics, and comparative welfare studies.

More than 20.000 students are enrolled at Aalborg University, and approximately 10% of those are international students from countries all over the world. The university employs approximately 2.000 faculty staff and approximately 1.400 administrative/technical staff.
