Moscow State Linguistic University, formerly known as Maurice Thorez Moscow State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages is a university in Moscow, Russia. It is the largest and the oldest university in Russia that specializes in linguistics and foreign languages.
· The Moscow State Linguistic University (MSLU) is one of the top Russian universities for linguistics and language education.
· MSLU students receive instruction in Russian and two foreign languages - at present, students may choose from an option of 36 different languages.
· More than three-quarters of all MSLU teaching staff have PhDs or other advanced degrees.
· MSLU produces some two hundred scholarly publications per year, including research monographs, manuals and textbooks.
· MSLU scholars have developed unique teaching and research software tools such as Lingua, Glossa, Spectr 121, Signal-Inyaz, Intonograph.
· MSLU scholars regularly win grants from the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, Russian Science Foundation, Russian Foundation for Basic Research, Russian Foundation for Research in the Humanities and other bodies.
· MSLU has four classroom buildings and one administrative building.
· MSLU semi-catering four halls of residence are all located in central Moscow.
· MSLU can boast brand-new on-site fitness facilities for MSLU students and teaching staff.
· A recreational sports camp in Ostashevo in a picturesque location 110 km away from Moscow is at the students' disposal for winter and summer holidays.
· MSLU has a lot to offer to sport and theatre enthusiasts: three students’ theatres which perform in English, Russian and French, a choir called Musica Linguae, football and volleyball teams and much more.
MSLU's partner base currently includes 130 partner universities from 35 countries. Collaboration includes student exchanges and teachers’ academic mobility to conduct classes and lectures and participation of leading teachers in international scientific conferences.
The University actively and fruitfully cooperates with Europe’s largest universities in Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, France, Czech Republic to implement the double degrees program. Its main partner in this program is the University of Granada; both universities have already awarded dual degrees to several graduates. The University is successfully cooperating in the oriental direction - with universities in China, Japan, Vietnam and Korea. MSLU also incorporates the Confucius Institute with the assistance of which it carried out the first exchange with North Korea in 2018. At the moment, it continues to be actively engaged in this area.
The university is involved on a large scale in the area of "Russian as a foreign language", which is implemented at the Institute of International Educational Programs. MSLU is currently training students from Cuba, China, several CIS countries, Thailand, Vietnam, Turkey, Cameroon, Sri Lanka, Hungary and other countries based on the quotas set by the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education and Rossotrudnichestvo, a Russian federal cultural agency.
