Dalhousie is focused on helping students learn in a hands-on, collaborative manner where everyone can have access to experiential learning opportunities. This focus on academic innovation means the university is committed to the continuous development of its programmes.
The university has a variety of communities to help support students, including the Black Student Advising Centre, advisors for Indigenous students, LGBTQ2SIA+ and gender safe places such as DalOUT, South House and various health services, plus the Dalhousie Multifaith Services. On top of this there are advisors, workshops and cultural events for international students. As well as these supportive groups, there are recreational societies and clubs to add to the sense of community on campus.
This is amplified for students who live on-campus who will be part of their residence community. Resident Assistant (Ras) organise floor events to help students meet and socialise. There is campus accommodation on the main Halifax Campus and the Agricultural Campus in Turo. The accommodation includes both single and shared rooms and is split between traditional halls and non-traditional residences with houses and apartments. Dalhousie offers and manages a range of funding opportunities for students. Each year, millions of dollars in scholarships, awards, bursaries and prizes is distributed through the Registrar's Office to promising Dalhousie students. Scholarships are money awarded for academic merit. For some scholarships, assessment is also based on other criteria such as community involvement, leadership and financial need.

Dalhousie is focused on helping students learn in a hands-on, collaborative manner where everyone can have access to experiential learning opportunities. This focus on academic innovation means the university is committed to the continuous development of its programmes.
The university has a variety of communities to help support students, including the Black Student Advising Centre, advisors for Indigenous students, LGBTQ2SIA+ and gender safe places such as DalOUT, South House and various health services, plus the Dalhousie Multifaith Services. On top of this there are advisors, workshops and cultural events for international students. As well as these supportive groups, there are recreational societies and clubs to add to the sense of community on campus.
This is amplified for students who live on-campus who will be part of their residence community. Resident Assistant (Ras) organise floor events to help students meet and socialise. There is campus accommodation on the main Halifax Campus and the Agricultural Campus in Turo. The accommodation includes both single and shared rooms and is split between traditional halls and non-traditional residences with houses and apartments. Alumni from Dalhousie – the university is known colloquially as Dal – have gone on to great success in diverse fields.
