Ever considered a career in international hospitality management? Offering rapid career progression and the opportunity to travel and work with a diverse group of people, international hospitality management roles are highly sought-after. As a booming industry, the hospitality industry not only outpaced the wider economy in 2013, but it grew faster than other significant sectors including retail, transport and manufacturing, with the South East Asia region leading that growth. EMLYON’s MSc in International Hospitality Management was created to help meet the recruitment needs of this ever-evolving industry.
A focus on entrepreneurship and innovation
The EMLYON MSc in International Hospitality Management features a strong focus on entrepreneurship and innovation in the hospitality industry. Students take an active role in their own learning by attending dynamic industry workshops, creating their own virtual company and building their professional network with hospitality industry experts and celebrity chefs.
The curriculum features cutting-edge courses to give students an understanding of how to manage in an industry characterized by diverse consumer tastes and high expectations for quality and service. For example, as part of the Concept Design and Development module, you will learn about the detailed process of taking an initial theme, style of cuisine or restaurant concept and translating it into a fully-fledged, unique and profitable restaurant or hotel.
“This master’s program is unique because it combines the hospitality industry specialism of Institut Paul Bocuse with the expertise of a top European business school, EMLYON. Both schools are very strong in entrepreneurship and innovation, and equipping our students with the competencies needed to develop new concepts and offers is critical to the future of the hospitality industry,” says Jeffrey Catrett, dean of Institut Paul Bocuse.

Study Asian hospitality with a semester in Shanghai
Students of the MSc in International Hospitality Management will have the unique opportunity to spend one semester at the EMLYON Asian Campus and Institut Paul Bocuse’s restaurant school in Shanghai. They will study courses such as Hospitality in the New Asia, Hospitality Financing and Asian Cultures and Etiquette.
So what benefit does this bring to students of hospitality?
“To know the Asian culture and environment in hospitality is invaluable because this is where the future expansion of the market is,” says Philippe Gay, director of international master’s programs at EMLYON. “Not only because there will be more people, but they will be wealthier and older, giving them more leisure time. The business of the world is moving from the West to Asia and our students have the unique opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the Chinese working world of hospitality.”
Students also get the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice with an in-company consultancy project for an international hospitality business. At the end of their semester, students are required to present their recommendations to the company directors and faculty members, giving them the opportunity to apply their knowledgeto a real-life hospitality business issue.
