147 universities from a dozen countries in Southern Europe are included in this year's Europe ranking, with Politecnico di Milano in Italy the best-performing university from the region.
Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna is ranked second in the region, while Universitat de Barcelona is third. Nine of the 10 top universities in the region are from either Italy or Spain, with Portugal's University of Lisbon the only exception (ranked 10th).
