The University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) was founded in 1958 in Beijing by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Sharing the rich resources of CAS, USTC was established to cultivate top-tier talents in cutting-edge and interdisciplinary science and technology. 
As one of China’s most prestigious universities, USTC is a member of the C9 League, a consortium of top 9 universities in China (C9 League on Wikipedia). Available programmes

USTC offers 35 undergraduate programs in 13 disciplines including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Life Science, Engineering Science, Electronic Information, Computer Science, Geophysics, Environmental Science and Engineering, Management Science, Cybersecurity, and Nuclear Engineering. These undergraduate programs are 4-year full-time study and delivered in Chinese. Bachelor's degree and graduation certificate will be awarded after the students finish all the required courses and pass the thesis defense. 

USTC offers 91 master's programs and 97 doctoral programs in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, Geophysics, Environmental Science and Engineering, etc.. Among these, nearly all the doctoral programs and some master's programs can be conducted in English. By completing the required credits, finishing the thesis/dissertation, and passing the thesis/dissertation defense, students will obtain the graduation certificate, and master's/doctoral degree after fulfilling the degree requirement. Generally in USTC, students may need 2-3 years to complete their master’s program, while doctoral students need 3-4 years

Suzhou Institute for Advanced Research locates in the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), China. With world renowned faculty, state-of-the-art curriculum and favorable location, USTC here offers English-instructed competitive international master's programs.

Accommodation
  • On-campus dormitory
International students can apply for on-campus accommodation. You should sign an agreement when moving into the dormitory, and go through relevant procedures for check-in. During your stay, please follow the rules and regulations of on-campus accommodation. For international students who extend their study period, the University does not provide on-campus accommodation.
  • Off-campus accommodation
Students may also choose to live off-campus under the condition that they must register themselves at the police station of their residential area and obtain Accommodation Registration Receipt from the local police station. If you are living off campus, do ensure that your rental contract with you landlord is legitimate and reliable.
  • Canteen & Cafeteria
For food options available on campus, USTC has several canteens, supermarkets and coffee shops that offer different food and beverages. Furthermore, at an average price per meal of around 10RMB, eating on campus is a very economical option. There are many canteens available for students and working staffs on campus. The campus canteens have very strict opening hours, so please be aware of that before you go. Most canteens, for example, open for lunch between 11:30 to 1:00 and for dinner between 5pm and 7pm. 
  • Library
USTC Library has 3 branches respectively in the West, East and South Campus, and all of them are equipped with book-returned-boxes through which the readers can return the books more conveniently. Covering a total area of 35000 square meters, with book stacks open-shelfed and over 3000 seats available in 20 reading rooms, it provides all the readers, faculty and students with various services and rich resources. USTC Library is accessible to our international students. Due to security reasons, students are required to swipe their campus card, which serves as their library card, at the building’s entrance in order to enter the library. If you encounter any problems when you borrow books, you may ask the librarians for help.
  • Sports Facilities
USTC has 1 indoor training hall, 1 badminton gymnasium, 2 gymnasiums, 2 playgrounds (football field), 20 basketball courts, 13 volleyball courts, 10 tennis courts, several table tennis rooms and gymnastics rooms.   • Net Services
In China, there are three main telecommunication carriers: China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom. All three carriers have branches on campus.
  • Postal Service
The post office, at the 1st floor of Dormitory Building No.230 in East Campus and the student activity center in West Campus, opens from 8:30 to 17:30 every day. The post office provides services for mailing, sending and receiving parcels.
  • Bank Service
Ren Min Bi (RMB) is the sole legal tender of China. The unit used for the RMB is Yuan and it has the smaller denominations of Jiao and Fen (1 Yuan = 10 Jiao = 100 Fen). We strongly recommend you to set up a bank account after you arrive in Hefei, and apply for a related bank card with the identification “UnionPay” on it. The UnionPay card, as a Debit Card, enables you to transfer money from your account directly to the recipient's account and it is commonly used in China. You can use it to pay for tuition fees, medical insurance and shopping in supermarkets, etc.. You can also download bank’s official app after opening an account in the bank to check balance conveniently.
  • Shuttle Bus
Within USTC campus, riding bicycles and walking are the most common modes of transportation. You can buy your own bicycle, and it's very convenient to use the bike-sharing services. You can ride an electric scooter, but please note that motorcycle is not permitted on campus. The shuttle buses are also available.

Student life

Food in Hefei You can find a variety of food options near the campus, including different styles of Chinese restaurants, Japanese Sushi restaurants, Korean restaurants, etc. You can also visit Ningguo Road, 1912 Street, and Lao Bao Guan (the Old Newspaper Office) to taste the charm of food. 
Travel in Hefei Hefei, also known as Luzhou or Luyang in ancient times, was established as a county since the Qin Dynasty. With a history of over 2200 years, Hefei has been known as the “Hometown of the Three Kingdoms and Lord Bao”, and it boasts many places of interest, including the Baogong Park, the Former Residence of Li Hongzhang, and the Three Kingdoms Relics Park.
Entertainment in Hefei Hefei offers rich and colorful travelling experiences, fashionable and full of vitality. You can enjoy performances of high level in Hefei Theatre, and wonderful performing art programs and local operas in the theatres.

USTC Fellowship
USTC provides scholarships to outstanding international students, funded by ANSO Scholarship, Chinese Goverment Scholarship and USTC Scholarship.

USTC warmly welcomes outstanding students from around the globe to join the "Cradle of Scientific Elites" where they can learn, explore, and grow into world-class scientific talents. 

To support international students, USTC provides diverse financial aid options and competitive scholarships. Excellent applicants, either for degree programs or for non-degree programs, may apply for the USTC Fellowship. 

USTC Fellowship for undergraduate programs has two levels: 

1. Level A, funded by USTC, includes tuition waiver, Comprehensive Medical Insurance, monthly stipend of 2,500 RMB and accommodation subsidy; 

2. Level B, funded by USTC, includes tuition waiver. 

USTC Fellowship for master's programs has two levels: 

1. Level A, funded by Ministry of Education (Chinese Government Scholarship), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS-ANSO Scholarship) or USTC, includes tuition waiver, Comprehensive Medical Insurance, monthly stipend of 3,000 RMB and accommodation subsidy; 

2. Level B, funded by USTC, includes tuition waiver. Subsidy for Teaching Assistance or Research Assistance will be available for application after enrollment.

USTC Fellowship for doctoral programs has three levels: 

1. Level A, funded by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS-ANSO Scholarship), includes tuition waiver, Comprehensive Medical Insurance and monthly stipend of up to 7,000 RMB; 

2. Level B, funded by Ministry of Education (Chinese Government Scholarship) or USTC, includes tuition waiver, Comprehensive Medical Insurance, monthly stipend of 3,500 RMB and accommodation subsidy; 

3. Level C, funded by USTC, includes tuition waiver. Subsidy for Teaching Assistance or Research Assistance will be available for application after enrollment.

To apply for the fellowship, applicants need to create an account in the USTC Application System and select the fellowship that they want to apply for. Applicants can either apply for one level or all three levels at the same time. USTC will decide which level of the fellowship may be given based on the comprehensive elevation of the applicant. Each applicant can only be supported by one scholarship. 

Introduction to USTC Fellowship for Non-degree Programs: 

Winter Camp: 

1. Level A is funded by USTC, which includes: tuition waiver, Comprehensive Medical Insurance, free university dormitory, international travel subsidy and stipend;

2. Level B is funded by USTC, which includes: tuition waiver, Comprehensive Medical Insurance, international travel subsidy and stipend ;

3. Level C is funded by USTC, which includes: tuition waiver, Comprehensive Medical Insurance and international travel subsidy.

Research Internship Program:

1. Level A is funded by USTC, which includes: tuition waiver, Comprehensive Medical Insurance, free university dormitory, and monthly stipend up to 2,500 RMB for undergraduate student, 3,000 RMB for master student, 3,500 RMB for Ph.D. student ; 

2. Level B is funded by USTC, which includes: tuition waiver, Comprehensive Medical Insurance, free university dormitory ;

3. Level C is funded by USTC, which includes: tuition waiver. 

Visiting Student Program (courses study):

1. Level A is funded by USTC, which includes: tuition waiver, Comprehensive Medical Insurance, free university dormitory, and monthly stipend up to 2,500 RMB for an undergraduate student, 3,000 RMB for a master student, and 3,500 RMB for a Ph.D. student; 

2. Level B is funded by USTC, which includes: tuition waiver, Comprehensive Medical Insurance, free university dormitory;

Excellent applicants may apply for USTC Fellowship, which covers tuition fee, insurance fee, monthly stipend (up to 7,000 RMB for PhD students and up to 3,000 RMB for master students) and accommodation subsidy. No, you don't. We don't charge any application fees for online application to USTC.
There is no need for finding a host supervisor while applying online. All of your materials and documents (only if your online application is complete) will be sent to the schools and departments for their reference. Online interviews will be organized by schools and departments afterwards. Professors will select prospective students according to application materials and interview performances.
You can apply as long as you can provide a Pre-graduation Certificate to ensure that you will complete your study and obtain official degree certificate by July of 2025.
