About Royal Holloway, University of London
At Royal Holloway, we have a proud history of being at the forefront of social change. We were one of the first places in the UK where women could access higher education. Today, as a university of social purpose, we’re still transforming lives and responding to global needs and challenges by building on our incredible platform of outstanding research, education, and civic and global engagement. You can be a part of this.
Our courses cover arts, business, humanities, law, and sciences, and we often take a cross-disciplinary approach that means you’re getting the best teaching from across the university. We consistently rank among the UK’s leading universities for both teaching and research, with 88% of Royal Holloway’s research rated as world-leading or internationally excellent in the latest REF (2021). This puts us in the top 25% of UK universities overall. Plus, many of our departments were ranked top 20 in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025, the Complete University Guide 2025 and The Guardian University Guide 2025.
Choose to study with us and you’ll receive outstanding teaching from world-leading experts, who take the time to get to know you and help you develop your passions or discover new ones. Our research-infused curriculum ensures you have the chance to get involved in discoveries that are creating real-world change today. We also cultivate partnerships that link us with local and global industries and culture, so you can boost your studies with real working experiences.
We have two locations: A close-knit community campus in Surrey that’s just a 40-minute train from London, and a vibrant base in the very heart of central London. Wherever you’re located, you’ll have access to top-notch facilities and expert staff.
It’s not all about studying. We provide careers support from day one and opportunities to give you skills and experiences you can take into the workplace. You might have the chance to find a work placement, volunteer in the local community or become a student ambassador. We also offer a fantastic range of social events, clubs, societies and sports, so you can enjoy some well-earned downtime.
We’re pleased to offer a great range of scholarships, bursaries and other funding opportunities, so you can make the most of your time here. They range from course-specific and sport scholarships to means-tested opportunities and automatic tuition fee reductions for those coming from certain countries.
Brave from our beginnings, Royal Holloway has been opening up university education to those who didn’t think they belonged and asking the difficult questions for over 170 years. We’re here for what matters – to society and the world, and most importantly, to you.

Bachelor
Step on to our Egham campus and you can’t fail to be amazed. But it’s not just the spectacular chateau-inspired Founder’s Building, with its towering fairy-tale turrets, that impresses. There’s our striking modern library, state-of-the art academic facilities and fantastic sports provision too, not to mention the woodland waterfalls.
Being campus-based means everything you need is right where you need it. If you fancy popping to the library at an unusual time of day, have to pick up essentials from the shop, desperately need a Starbucks or want a tranquil place to escape, relax and recharge, it’s all here. It’s safe, it’s green, and, most importantly, it will quickly feel like home.
Choice is key when it comes to our accommodation. Will you choose a modern townhouse or
opt for a traditional room in our historic Founder’s Building? Are you happy to share a bathroom or
is an en-suite essential? Check our website for a full list of options but rest assured that all our halls of residence offer comfort, a ready-made community of fellow students and a range of prices to suit different budgets.
Our London campus is in the heart of Bloomsbury, an area packed with museums, libraries, production houses and agencies, as well as shops, pubs and cafes. Soak up everything the capital has to offer while studying from our hub at 11 Bedford Square. Here we have teaching spaces, offices and dedicated staff who will give you all the support you need. You’re also close to Senate House. As Royal Holloway is a member of the University of London, you’ll have access to the spectacular resources at Senate House Library.
London is an exciting place to live. Staying in halls will keep you connected to wider university life, while helping you make friends with students at a similar stage of study. We have some rooms available for postgraduate students via the University of London’s Intercollegiate halls of residence.
Student life
Getting a degree is just one (obviously important) part of your time here. There’s loads more to be getting on with to build up your experiences, make friends or just enjoy some well-earned downtime.
Our Students’ Union has a well-deserved reputation for being one of the best in the UK. From musical theatre and debating to comics and cats, there’s something for everyone with a great range of clubs and societies to join. The SU also puts on a dazzling array of entertainment from top bands and comedy acts to cabaret, film nights, socials and even a visit from real reindeer at Christmas.
For those who like to stay active, we have a sports centre on the Egham campus offering gym memberships, general fitness and exercise classes, along with recreational and competitive sports clubs.
We’ve also got lots of services in place to support you with health and wellbeing, disability and neurodiversity, and academic success.
Our Egham campus is regularly ranked and voted as one of the safest in the UK and we’re proud of our friendly and welcoming community here. You’re also close to Egham town centre, Staines and Kingston, all of which offer great nightlife and shopping. Plus, historic Windsor and Runnymede are just up the road and you’re just a 40-minute train from central London.
If you’re based at our central London hub, you’ve got the numerous delights of the capital at your fingertips. From theatres, pubs, clubs and restaurants to museums, galleries, cultural landmarks old and new, and great shopping.
We’ll make sure you leave university with more than just a degree. Careers support begins from day one and continues for up to two years after you graduate.
We have strong links with lots of high-profile employers worldwide, including Gartner, McLaren Automotive, KPMG, Enterprise Mobility, Accenture and the NHS. You’ll get invaluable opportunities to network with employers and former students at our careers fairs, employer drop-ins, skills sessions and alumni panels, so you can leave university ready for the workplace.
Plus, everything you do here, from your academic work to being part of our award-winning Volunteering team, can be tailored to enhance your skillset. We’ll help you identify and build the skills you need to stand out to employers and fulfil your career goals. Guidance from your academic department is complemented by our expert Careers Service team. Together, they’ll give you one-to-one careers coaching, practical support on writing CVs and job applications, preparing for interviews, finding placements, and much more.
