The start of teaching for the majority of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught programmes is in September each year, with Freshers’ Week, including Welcome & Induction taking place before it. The University also offers around 50 taught programmes to commence in November, and a further 30 programmes have a “dual start” option, offering a January start date as well as September. This gives the option to delay study to January.

Available programs

With over 700 undergraduate degrees across four colleges, there is something for everybody at the University of Glasgow. The University’s undergraduate honours degrees in the College of Arts, College of Social Sciences, College of Science & Engineering and College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences offer the flexibility to study several subjects before choosing a specialism.

The wide range of subject choices and combinations make it easy to find a degree programme to match most interests. The subject(s) chosen determine the type of degree programme you will take and for how long you will study, but most standard flexible degree programme structures last four years.
The moment you start your studies, you will be taught by dedicated and passionate academics in a flexible and innovative learning environment. To help you develop the ability to direct your own learning, you will experience a range of teaching methods including large lectures, small tutorial groups, field trips and hands on practical sessions.
Fees vary according to fee status (often the same as country of residence) and programme. Tuition fees for international students range between £21,600 to £56,500 per year, with an average of £32,300 per year.

The University of Glasgow offers a wide range of facilities. Right in the heart of the main campus, the library opens 361 days a year, from 7.25am to 2.00am. The library's 12 Wi-Fi-enabled floors have hundreds of PCs and 2,500 study spaces. Students can access 2.5 million books and journals and 800,000 e-books and e-journals. The library is home to special collections, packed with rare manuscripts.

Further study spaces can be found across the main campus, such as the James McCune Smith Learning Hub, an inspirational and diverse learning space which can accommodate over 2,500 students, allowing undergraduate and postgraduate students access to advanced and useful interactive learning spaces and cafes on the first floor, or the Round Reading room, which is modelled on the Pantheon in Rome.

Founded in 1807, the University’s The Hunterian is Scotland's oldest public museum and home to one of the largest collections outside the national museums. It is a central resource for research and teaching in the arts, humanities and natural and medical sciences.

Dedicated to postgraduate students, the Gilchrist Postgraduate Club provides social and study space (with individual study booths and a seminar room) and serves hot and cold food, barista coffee and alcoholic beverages.

The main campus offers over 11 catering locations, from cafes to hub kitchens and in a variety of cousins.

The Stevenson Building offers indoor sport facilities across several floors, from swimming pools to tennis courts and free weights area. Outdoor facilities are also available, with natural grass football pitches and courts for tennis, basketball and so on. Students can join any of the myriad club sports and compete nationally or internationally at tournaments.

Student life

The University has a vibrant student life where everyone is welcome. The four student bodies offer plenty of opportunities to get involved on campus and enrich your Glasgow experience. With over 300 clubs and societies, you are sure to find people who share your passion.

Glasgow also has a lively nightlife, with around 700 pubs, bars and nightclubs. The city hosts national and international festivals, music events and sport competitions. Glasgow also has more green space per head of population than any other European city, with more than 90 parks and public gardens.

The University offers work opportunities, and you can also make a positive impact in the local community through volunteering, or practice what you learnt by taking on an internship. The Careers Service is there to support your professional development, from information sessions and practical skills masterclasses to individual sessions and tailored career courses and pathways.

Students have a choice of location for accommodation, room types and costs. Furthermore, all University accommodations have fully trained wardens and senior living support assistants.

Student Services are also available for support, from wellbeing support, disability services to chaplaincy.

Traveling around Glasgow and further afield is easy and is offered via various transport links. Or, of you prefer, you can cycle using the established cycle lanes throughout the city.
